In Praise of Thought is Elizabeth Haddad’s debut collection of poetry. Deeply concerned by an increasingly automated, technology driven world, Haddad sought to examine the internet poetically, by turning inward to the core of what it means to be alive. Arranged as a stream of consciousness between the tangible and the virtual, she confronts the most human parts of the self (memory, identity, personal history, and fear) to combat a sense of loss (of privacy, autonomy, even one’s own public self) that can happen in a virtual existence. In Praise of Thought is poetry in response to technology, but more powerfully, in praise of the human experience.
With a stunning book design by Visnja Brdar, an unexpected use of vivid color and undulating graphics will take the reader through a portal, one that hopes to inspire and question: What does it mean for you to be alive, right now?
Elizabeth Haddad is a writer and poet from West Virginia. Drawing from a strange and wonderful mix of Appalachian, Baltic, and Middle Eastern roots, her writing explores self-identity, culture, humanity, and autonomy during this digital age.
She has worked as a freelance content writer and was the creator of a travel website called The Coffee Experiment, where she wrote about people and places through the lens of a universal ritual: coffee. She lives in New York.
